SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2009 BLOG NEWS & NOTES TRI-DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL GAME PHOTOS VOLLEYBALL: HAWKS LEAVE EVERYTHING ON THE COURT, COME UP JUST SHORT OF STATE MOST SUCCESSFUL VOLLEYBALL SEASON IN SCHOOL HISTORY - IT'S GOT TO BE A RECORD FOR NUMBER OF "HEART-STOPPING" FIVE SET MATCHES |
The Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School volleyball team, along with a strong contigent, and very vocal group of fans, traveled to Coupeville for the remainder of the Tri-District volleyball tournament that started with a victory last Wednesday. In the semifinals, MRLH met the Lopez Lobos, and in a very tight match, with the winner automatically qualifying for the WIAA State Championships, the Hawks lost, 3-1 (19-25, 12-25, 25-21, 22-25). Then, with just a half hour to regroup, Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School took on Lummi in a winner to State match. Even though Coupeville was two hours away from home, the Coupeville gym was just as loud as it had been in the first Hawk Tri-District playoff match at home last Wednesday, as the MRLH faithful really brought the noise and enthusiasm. The Hawks played inspired volleyball, and left every ounce of energy they had on the court, but came up just short of their goal of making the State tournament this season in losing, 3-2 (20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 9-15). Congratulations to the coaches and athletes on going farther than any other volleyball team has gone and winning more matches than any other volleyball team in school history this season. With most everyone returning next year, look for the volleyball squad to more great things next season! GO HAWKS! - MRLH Sports Photo Blog staff TRI-DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL GAME PHOTOS |

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2009 BLOG NEWS & NOTES WIAA 1B/2B STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS CROSS COUNTRY: LED BY ANDREW W., MRLH BOY'S TAKE FOURTH PLACE AT STATE! ANDREW W. AND ALEXIS F. BOTH TAKE 8th PLACE INDIVIDUALLY IN BOY'S AND GIRL'S RACES |
The Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School boy's cross country team, led by Andrew W.'s eighth place finish individually, took 4th place at the WIAA 1B/2B Washington State Championships today in Pasco, Washington. MRLH knew going in that it would be a tight race for the team championship, and tight it was between Northwest Christian - Lacey, Republic, Mossyrock, Mt. Rainier Lutheran and Tri-Cities Prep, but Northwest Christian got the top two individual places and used that to springboard them to the team championship. The MRLH boy's were paced by Andrew W. in 8th, Ryan H. tied for 25th, Steven H. in 26th, Jake K. in 29th, Quinn P. in 33rd, Dan P. in 38th and Noah P. in 49th. On the girl's side, although they were not competing in the team championship, Hawk runners finished strong, with Alexis F. taking 8th and BreAnna R. coming in 25th. Congratulations to the coaches and all of the cross country athletes on another outstanding season. With most everyone returning, next season should be another great success for Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School. GO HAWKS! - MRLH Sports Photo Blog staff WIAA 1B/2B STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS |

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2009 BLOG NEWS & NOTES TRI-DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL GAME PHOTOS VOLLEYBALL: HAWKS DIG DEEP TO PULL OUT EPIC FIVE SET VICTORY IN FIRST ROUND OF TRI-DISTRICT TOURNAMENT |
The Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School volleyball team got its first ever Tri-District tournament victory tonight in exciting fashion, downing Grace Academy in a five set thriller, 3-2 (25-17, 25-22, 17-25, 17-25, 15-7). Meyer Gymnasium has never been as loud as it was for the entire match, with fans from both sides showing their support for their teams. The MRLH Athletic Director stated he hadn't been to a volleyball game that was that loud since his days in the Zzu Crew at Washington State University! The Hawks appeared to be in control of the match, going up 2-0, but Grace Academy never gave up and played inspired volleyball in the third and fourth sets, winning both 25-17, to force the decisive fifth set. Grace Academy went on top early in the fifth set, but MRLH got outstanding serving from both Kayla F. and Kelsey R. in the latter stages of the set to pull away for the win. Mt. Rainier Lutheran now travels to Coupeville High School for the remaining rounds of the Tri-District tournament this Saturday, taking on the Lopez Lobos at noon. Then, depending upon whether they win or lose, they will either play at 2pm or 4pm. Congratulations to the coaches and athletes on the first Tri-District tournament win in team history (and considering the school is so new at competing in varsity athletics, that is an outstanding achievement)! Best of luck the rest of the way! TRI-DISTRICT TOURNAMENT BRACKET TRI-DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL GAME PHOTOS GO HAWKS! - MRLH Sports Photo Blog staff |
