| Change was in the air today as the halls of Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School went from the quiet of summertime to the hustle and bustle of the first day of practice for all of the Fall sports programs. Practice got underway for girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country and soccer. Each program will be working hard over the next two weeks to get ready for varsity competition. After graduating very few seniors from last year's team's, look for some exciting results in the Sea-Tac 2B/1B League this season as a result of all of the hard work and effort of MRLH student athletes! Team and individual results and highlights will be posted on the MRLH Sports Photo Blog for each sport, so bookmark this page to keep up with all of the exciting Hawk action this Fall. | Since it is summertime, and there isn't much of anything going on regarding the MRLH sports scene, I want to continue to rehash highlights from this recently completed 2008-09 season, and this one is THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR......a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP for Coach Syverson and the boy's track team, and a fourth place finish at state for the girl's track team! Congratulations to all of the coaches and athletes on these amazing achievements! What will the track teams do for an encore, you ask? Well, just like both basketball teams (and all of the other MRLH athletic programs for that matter), almost all of the track & field athletes return for this coming season....so look for more exciting results on the track again in the spring! Once the fall sports seasons get underway (volleyball, cross country and soccer), look for this blog to be updated as often as daily (hmmm...we'll see how long that lasts), with scores, photos and highlights from all of the action. | Welcome to the "MRLH Sports Photo Blog"! This is the first installment of what I hope to be a very regular outlet for MRLH sports throughout the various seasons. For the first few updates, I will be reviewing some of the highlights from all of the exciting action from last year. First up are photos from the boy's and girl's basketball teams (pictured above)....both of which made their first ever trips to the post season in 2008-09! The girl's team made the pigtail game for entry in to the district tournament and the boy's team made the district tournament. Considering the fact that MRLH has only competed in varsity athletics for three years, this is a HUGE accomplishment! In their first year of varsity competition, the boys team didn't win any games...in their second year, they won one game...and in their third year, they made the district playoffs. On the girls' side, in their first year of competition, they didn't win any games...in their second year, they also won one game...and in their third year, they made the pigtail play-in game for the last spot in the district tournament. With almost every player coming back on both the boy's and girl's teams this coming season, the future of MRLH basketball looks very bright! GO HAWKS! - MRLH Sports Photo Blog staff |
