The MRLH volleyball team hosted Northwest Yeshiva tonight and, although they played hard and fought for every point, they came up short on the scoreboard, falling 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 11-25). Mt. With eight 1B/2B teams competing at the Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley, Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School cross country runners ran away from the competition in impressive fashion in every race. MRLH runners took 1st, 2nd, 5th, 13th and 19th in the 5,000 meter junior varsity race, 1st, 2nd, 6th, 9th and 13th in the girl's 5,000 meter varsity race and 1st, 2nd, 4th, 8th, 11th, 12th and 14th in the boy's 5,000 meter varsity race. The Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School soccer team took the ranked LaConner soccer team today at Concordia and came away with a hard fought 4-2 victory! With the win, the team improves to 2-4 on the season. The offense was in high gear, scoring 4 goals for the first time this season, and coming close on several other scoring attempts. The defense also played well, keeping LaConner from mounting any comeback attempts in the second half. Continuing to prepare for this year's state championships at the end of the season, the MRLH cross country team headed to Portland, Oregon, to compete at the Nike Pre-Nationals at the Portland Meadows Race Track. 64 teams from Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Missouri, Kentucky, Idaho and British Columbia took part in the high-level competition. Hawk runners fared well, with both the boy's top finishers coming in 25th and 37th, while the girl's top finishers came in 25th and 29th in the 5,000 meters Division 2 Varsity races. The boy's race had over 150 competitors entered and the girl's race had over 130. Going on the road to Kirkland to take on Puget Sound Adventist Academy, the MRLH volleyball team played hard but ultimately lost, 3-0 (13-25, 21-25, 19-25), to a very good Shark volleyball team. With the loss, the Hawks fell to 4-2 on the season thus far. The Hawks entertain Northwest Yeshiva at Meyer Gymnasium on Tuesday, September 29th, in their next match. The Hawks soccer squad returned to action on their home field today but fell to rival Evergreen Lutheran, 4-1. With the loss, MRLH fell to 1-4 on the season. The MRLH boy's cross country team came in first place (out of 17 teams) in the combined Emerald City League / SeaTac League meet at Kelsey Creek Park in Bellevue. Top finishers for the Hawks on the boy's side came in 3rd, 5th, 11th, 18th, 37th, 38th and 73rd, while the lone competitor for Mt. Rainier Lutheran in the girl's race came in 4th. In their third five set match in five total matches thus far this season, the MRLH Hawks won their fourth match of the season by dispatching Chief Leschi at Meyer Gymnasium, 3-2 (25-18, 26-28, 25-18, 18-25, 15-7). Bear Creek has a veteran team and they took advantage of their experience in winning the match. In a continued effort to compete against the best competition possible to prepare for the Sea-Tac League Championships and the State Championships at the end of the season, the MRLH cross country team competed at the Ft. Steilacoom Invitational against the top 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A and 1B/2B competition on the west side of the state. The Hawks top finisher in the boy's varsity 5,000 meter race came in 92nd out of 326 runners, while the top Hawk finisher in the girl's varsity 5,000 meter race came in 43rd out of 266 runners. The Hawk boy's team finished 27th out of 50 teams entered, which is no small feat considering the fact that Mt. Rainier Lutheran was probably the smallest school invited to the meet that was dominated by all of the larger public 4A and 3A schools from the west side of the state (there was even a 6A team from Oregon competing). The MRLH volleyball team improved to 3-1 on the season by dispatching the visitors to Meyer Gymnasium from Quilcene. To gain experience for Hawk junior varsity squad, the varsity played the 1st and 3rd games and the junior varsity competed against Quilcene's varsity in the 2nd game. MRLH continues to improve from last season and are playing much better on both offense and defense. With the top Hawk boy's finishers coming in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 9th, 11th and 12th, and the top girl's finishers coming in 1st, 3rd and 10th, the Mt. Rainier Lutheran High cross country teams got off to a great start in league this season at the first Sea-Tac League meet at Seward Park in Seattle. The boy's brought home 1st place as a team, in addition to the individual championships they garnered in both the boy's and girl's varsity races. Rainier Lutheran High School volleyball team took to the court in the friendly confines of Meyer Gymnasium tonight and won another thrilling five set match, this time coming from behind to defeat Mary M. Knight, 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 11-25, 25-20, 15-10). After struggling in their third set loss to fall behind 2-1, the Hawks stormed back to take sets four and five and secure their second victory of the young season. With the win, MRLH improves to 2-1. Against competition from the top Washington 4A, 3A and 2A teams, as well as top 6A and 5A teams from Oregon, the Mt. Rainier Lutheran High School cross country team held their own and used the Capital Invite as a great training ground for their upcoming Sea-Tac League meets. The top MRLH finishers in the junior boy's 2.3 mile race came in 14th and 17th (out of 127 competitors), while the top MRLH finisher in the girl's junior 2.3 mile race came in 21st (out of 100 competitors). Each set was closely contested early, but in each, Crosspoint was able to take control near the end and finish out the set on top. Mt. Rainier Lutheran cross country athletes won both the boy's and girl's 1.5 mile varsity races in the season opening Sea-Tac Jamboree at Earlands Point Park in Bremerton. In the boy's varsity race, MRLH runners took 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 20th, 24th, 36th, 43rd and 45th, and in the girl's varsity race, MRLH runners took home 1st and 7th place. In what has become a reoccuring theme of the opening day of the Fall sports schedule, the girl's volleyball team won their opening match of the season in dramatic fashion, defeating Grace Academy in a hard-fought five set match, 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 27-25, 21-25, 15-11). Every set was a closely fought battle, with neither team being able to pull away, until Mt. Rainier finally control in the fifth and final set. The Hawks fought back twice from one goal deficits, forcing OT with a goal in the 71st minute. Finally, a second unassisted goal in the 82nd minute gave MRLH the victory.
